I have frozen this website!

Hi kids. Mroaks here. You didn't recognize me because I'm wearing my site admin hat. Guess what: I'm going overseas for a while. As my last official act on this site, I will throw a monkey wrench into the system. I'm changing the permissions to effectively freeze this site. That means none of you can post new comments or diaries -- until brooke or someone figures out what I did and reverses it.

Why am I committing this act of sabotage? Pull up a chair.

buddhajones :: I have frozen this website!
You guys have no appreciation. OK, some of you have appreciation. But a lot of you don't.

According to google analytics, more than 100+ people are "loyal" visitors who look at this site multiple times a week. There are approximately 3 dozen visitors who look at this site multiple times per day. More than 230 users have user accounts and could post comments. But we all know that there's just a handfull of regular posters.

Most of you guys take this site for granted. You think this site is supposed to give you something -- a forum, nichiren-related news, opinions -- without your having to give anything to it -- your voice, for instance. And then you complain about the "tone" of the posts by people who take the trouble to post something. You complain that you're not getting what you want here. Well, what are you contributing here?

Go away. Go find some other site to complain about. The grass is greener where you water it.

For the rest of you -- the ones who contribute and do appreciate this site -- you need to go away, too. People don't appreciate your efforts.

Brooke, you are too sweet and no one gets your sweetness and searching heart here. Auntie, you should write a book. DD, you should write another book. Joe, you have your own blog so I know where I can find your humorous, skeptical questioning. Engyo, you're a balanced, smart presence everywhere you post - good work. Markp, you have a message board to run. Clown, certainly you can find something better to do. And to the others who I am forgetting at the moment - sorry - THANK YOU for contributing. You guys rock.

Now go away. Live your life. Chant your chant. Put your heart into your practice. Don't let the haters get you down. Namu-myoho-renge-kyo is waiting to be discovered.

Blessings to all. I hereby freeze this site with the prayer that you and all beings will be well, happy, and free from suffering.

Sounds appropriate
Seems like an appropriate thing to do.  But, if I can post a comment, is it really frozen?

What did you do?
I see you messed with some settings. But what else did you do? I don't get it, Mr. Mischief.

I got your message, btw. Congrats. I will send a reply later this week when I have really digested the news.

Frozen?
Mroaks, I don't think this website can be frozen, but thanks for trying. This is an ingenious and nearly indestructible low-maintenance group-blogging platform, and that's why we're using it. Thank you, SoapBlox.

We can all just stop participating here. That's cool with me. Let's make a plan to come back next year to see what has become of BuddhaJones.

Brilliant!
You have such a flair for drama, mroaks. I love that your parting gift to us is to set us free.

I will miss you. I will also miss reading this site. There were always some absolute gems amidst the garbage.

Love to you all.

Auntie

WTH?
Well, I guess that's it, then. I don't worry about being unappreciated. Practice isn't about winning appreciation. I don't blog for glory and accolades. Who does?

Sure, of course, we can find better things to do than hanging out at the Nichiren water cooler and swapping comments. Last week I volunteered for a political candidate and plan to spend more time at the phone bank. So there's that.

Sometimes we were able to have stimulating discussions here. I enjoyed the questions that were raised about faith and practice. I will miss that.

Regarding nasty/ugly comments, I just tuned those out. If a comment really bugged me, I would say something about it. It's disappointing that any Buddhist would want to see some sort of censorship squad to make sure that everyone appeared nice and polite all the time. People who care so much about appearances are usually trying to hide something. That's my two cents, anyway. This is the Internet for goodness sake. It is a sea of embarrassment.

I'm sure I'll catch up with many of you via e-mail or on the phone. For those I don't know personally, I have enjoyed getting to know something about you and your Buddhist practice on this site. Thanks for dropping in.

Final Word
Hello there. I am one of your regular lurkers. I have commented here in the past. I love this site. It serves a unique function. You guys aren't afraid to call it the way you see it. Nichirenites need more of that.

I re-posted one of Byrd's controversial blog posts here a long time ago. Please see the link.

Looks like the blog police got to it. Don't let the blog police deepsix this site too.

Thanks for your efforts. I appreciated it all.
